Research update

1/20 1 hr research 1/22 1 hr research 1/23 30 mins research

I have recently changed my research question from, "Does Al Qaeda pose a threat to the US after us killing Bin Laden?" to "How is Al Qaeda more dangerous after 9/11."  I made this change because the databases were not updated enough to where I could find info about the somewhat recent death of Bin Laden.  Also, there is a lot more information on 9/11, and what Al Qaeda has done since then to become more dangerous.

Other then change my question, I have been doing a lot of research on Al Qaeda as well as a lot of citing.  Also, I have began to take the most valuable information as well as the details to create notecards.  This week I will continue to research and create notecards.

Baseball

We are already almost through the month of January, which means baseball season is beginning to get underway.  Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports since I have been in lower school.  I have grown to love it more over the course of middle school, after playing on multiple summer teams.

My favorite part of baseball is hitting.  I have always loved to hit the ball and see how far, and fast it goes.  Nothing to me feels much better then hitting a ball hard and watching it go through into the outfield for a hit.

Research

1/18 sports illustrated magazines 1 hr 30 mins 45 pages, 1/19 Beautiful Boy 1 hr 33 pgs

My research project for our current paper is, what Al Qaeda had done leading up the attack on 9/11.  So far, my research has been going pretty well.  I haven't had any problems citing or creating my bibliographies.

Towards the beginning of my research, I had mostly just used Facts On File because I had used it in the past, and had continued to find good information on it.  I then discovered that copying and pasting the citation was very quick and easy, so I had stopped using Facts On File because it did not have the copy and paste citation feature.  I began using JSTOR, which had a lot of info as well as the copy and paste citation feature, and I've continued to have a lot of success with that.

Reading response

Zine Yearbook 1/8 10 mins 5 Pgs, 1/9 10 mins 7 Pgs, 1/10 10 mins 7 Pgs.  Beautiful Boy 1/13 2 hours 54 Pgs

I am currently reading Beautiful Boy by David Sheff.  This is the true story of a boy who made good grades, and who had a lot of friends, but made a few bad decisions and ended up as a druggie on the streets.  Nic Sheff's life takes a turn for the worst after playing with gateway drugs such as cigarettes, and marijuana.

This book to me shows how important it is to make good decisions especially in high school regarding what substances you put in your body.  Falling into peer pressure is something you need to make sure doesn't happen to you, especially regarding a serious matter such as drugs.  Also, Nik fails to seek help, but instead experiments with more drugs in school.  I am excited to continue reading this book and to see what happens to Nik.

Hunting Season

It's getting later into January, which means the days of duck season are growing short.  The last weekend is this one coming up, which means most hunters in Louisiana will be headed to there camps to make their last couple of hunts of the 2012-2013 duck season.  Although, I'm sad the duck season is almost over, I guess I will be somewhat glad to be able to spend more time with my friends.

This years duck season had been pretty good for the most part, we had mostly good hunts but a couple of not so good ones every now and then which is expected.  This duck season has also gone smoothly due to the acquisition of our new retriever, Bella.  I have had a lot of great hunts this year and have made a lot of great memories with my dad in the blind.  I am already looking forward to next season and hope it is as good if not better then this year's duck season.
