Umbrella by Jay Z and Rihanna carries multiple poetic traits. I chose to analyze this song because I was familiar with it and it seemed to have a lot of poetic devices within it. The main trait that this song carries I would say is anaphora, or repetition. Also, I thought there was a pattern within the sounds of the words that Rihanna used.
"Under my umbrella ella ella eh eh eh
Under my umbrella ella ella eh eh eh
Under my umbrella ella ella eh eh eh" This is a big use of anaphora, or repetition that Rihanna uses throughout the song. I also noticed that Rihanna seemed to use words that ended with a more sharp sound such as "heart," "dark," and "apart." I felt that this pattern created a darker mood among the song.
Interesting post, Brennan. Like the use of the lyrics to show an example of Rihanna's usage of this poetic technique.
ReplyDeleteI see you noticed some stuff, that's always good. But the ella ella eh eh eh part was kinda.... pointless.. no offense tho. Buttttt yep the darker mood thingy and the thingy with the sharp sounds and stuff.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, there's repetition all through the son. You are correct about the dark mood, the video really shows the mood of the sound and she isn't really talking about rain.
