Tambu goes back to the homestead before christmas, and see's what has taken place due to her absence. She comes home to caved in roof, as well as a dirty toilet. Whenever Tambu leaves to go to the mission, she always returns to disseray around the homestead. When Tambu returns, the news of Lucia's pregnancy is released.
The homestead cannot function without Tambu, there is always something wrong when she returns. I think part of this is because Tambu is living in such a nice place at the mission, and she forgets how bad it is back at the homestead. Also, I don't think it was a good idea for Takesure to get Lucia pregnant because it is hard enough supporting the kids that are already there, and having Lucia and Takesure's baby would only make matters more difficult.
