Goodall's Plagerism
I feel as if what Jane Goodall did was very serious. Plagerism is known as a big time issue to all writers, wether you are just writing a paper or a book. Under any circumstances it is never okay to use someone else's information in your work and call it your own. The issue would have been a lot less serious if Goodall would've cited to information properly, but she failed to do so. Plagiarism is the number 1 don't do if you are a writer, and is never anything to even consider.
To resolve this issue, Goodall did the right thing by apologizing. Although this was a good deed, there is still more that needs to be done. Goodall should let everyone know what information she got from other sources, so it is fair to them. Also, I think it would only be fair if the other people from which Goodall got her info from, should get some of the profit of Goodall's book. Lastly, I think that the sources from the information need to be printed within the book somewhere.

Literacy Narrative
I think that the paper that I will revise and put in my portfolio would be my Literacy Narrative that I wrote in the first semester. I thought that that paper had some good ideas and a lot of potential. I thought that this was one of my better papers, and I enjoyed typing it. The traits of good writing that I will focus on, are organization, and developing ideas.
The comments that I received on my literacy narrative were not too negative, which is why I will use this paper in my portfolio. Most of the comments directed toward developing ideas, which will not be difficult to do. Also, I got a comment saying my organization could have been better. These issues should not be difficult to overcome, as I should be able to come out with a good final product in my class portfolio.

Nervous Conditions for Freshman
3/15 1 hr- b layer 3/17 1 hr 30 mins- a layer
Although it wasn't my favorite, I think that it is only fair for the rising freshman to read Nervous Conditions. Nervous Conditions for me was not an easy read, but I still think that in the long run it has improved me as a reader. I learned a lot of things from reading this book, and I think that it would benefit the rising eighth graders just like it benefitted me. Also, I think that since we had to read it, they should not have any easier of a freshman year in english class.
I thought that the vocabulary of Tsitsi Dangarembga was not very easy to read. I found my self looking up words just about every night I read, and this was not a very enjoyable experience considering I could not just sit back and enjoy the book. Although, I didn't exactly love this aspect of reading Nervous Conditions, I thought that it had made me a better reader, as well as expanded my vocabulary.
The plot within Nervous Conditions taught me what it'd be like to live in a more remote country. It made me put myself in Tambu's shoes and think about what it would be like to grow up poor and have to fight for an education. I think that this book would be good for the eighth graders because it would be very informative about what is happening in the world outside of the United States.
Overall, I would say that I am glad that we read this book. I learned a lot about postcolonial literature, women's rights, as well as a lot of vocabulary. I would say that I came away with a lot of valuable things, especially after doing the layered project. These are the reasons why I think that this would be something good for the rising freshman to read.

Nervous Conditions: Ch. 10
At Sacred Heart, Tambu is only allowed to stay in the room with the 5 other black students. The total of 6 black students at the whole school have to sleep in 1 room where normally only 4 sleep. Also, there is not a black psychiatrist for Nyasha to see there.
Racism is clearly a problem in Sacred Heart here considering Tambu is only allowed to room with the blacks. Also, racism is shown when Nyasha talks to a white psychiatrist and he states that the conditions Nyasha has are not real, and she is faking because she is black. This example of him thinking that blacks and whites suffer from different mental issues is also racism.

Nervous Conditions: Ch. 9
Tambu gets a scholarship to go to a convent school called Sacred Heart, and her parents allow her to go. Once back at the mission, Tambu discovers that Nyasha's eating disorder has turned into bulimia. Once she finds out that Nyasha has been throwing up her meals in the bathroom, Nyasha explains that she is trying to discipline her body and occupy her mind.
Nyasha's nervous condition is her anxiety about the social aspects of her life. Nyasha's anxiety has made her bulimic, and even leading her to starving herself completely. Nyasha and Tambu's relationship has grown considering Tambu disliked Nyasha at first but now she doesn't even want to go back to Sacred Heart while Nyasha is in this state.
Nervous Conditions: Ch. 8
Tambu returns to the homestead, and she helps out with the disarray that had taken place while she was at the mission. Also, Lucia's baby, Farai, is born. The problem within this chapter though, is Tambu's feelings about the wedding. Whenever the wedding of Tambu's parents is discussed, Tambu states that, "Whenever I thought about it... I suffered a horrible crawling over my skin, my chest contracted to a breathless tension and even my bowels threatened to let me know their opinion."
Tambu is embarrassed for her parents to get married, and she almost views it as a joke. In her culture, it is almost a sin to get married and wear a white dress if you are unclean, and much less if already have multiple children. If I was Tambu, I would still be embarassed, but I would also try to support my parents as much as possible.

Nervous Conditions: Ch. 7
Tambu goes back to the homestead before christmas, and see's what has taken place due to her absence. She comes home to caved in roof, as well as a dirty toilet. Whenever Tambu leaves to go to the mission, she always returns to disseray around the homestead. When Tambu returns, the news of Lucia's pregnancy is released.
The homestead cannot function without Tambu, there is always something wrong when she returns. I think part of this is because Tambu is living in such a nice place at the mission, and she forgets how bad it is back at the homestead. Also, I don't think it was a good idea for Takesure to get Lucia pregnant because it is hard enough supporting the kids that are already there, and having Lucia and Takesure's baby would only make matters more difficult.

Nervous Conditions: Ch. 6
Tambu goes to one of her first dances for christmas, and has a good time with her friends. Andy, one of Nyardzo's brothers, walks Tambu, Chido, and Nyasha home. Once they get back, Tambu and Chido try to sneak inside without getting caught by Babamukuru, and Nyasha talks to Andy outside. They all get caught, and Nyasha gets in huge trouble with Babamukuru.
I think that Babamukuru was way to hard on Nyasha and over reacted. It is very wrong to me that he would call his daughter what he said, and it is even worse that he would physically fight her. I understand that Babamukuru wants to be protective over his daughter but all they were doing was talking. Maybe it was okay to do this in their culture but I disagree with the way that he acted towards Nyasha.

We are already into March, which means that spring is just right around the corner. Once we get back from spring break, it will almost be summer time. This year has gone by very fast and I cannot believe that we are about to begin the fourth quarter of the school year. I have been at Episcopal since kindergarden, and remember looking up to the high schoolers throughout all of my years here. It is very weird to think that I will soon be a sophomore in just a few months.
Freshman year has been fun so far for the most part. I have had a lot of fun with my friends, as well as playing football and baseball. High school has fulfilled most of my expectations and I have had a great time so far. I hope it continues to be fun for me, and I can have a good last 3 years here.
Expectations
Reading Details- 3/8 1 hr C layer 2 3/10 1 hr 30 mins ch 9-10
Like Tambu at the mission vs at home, I too can act very differently depending on where I am. When I am with adults I act more mature and formal. On the other hand, with my friends, I tend to goof off more and not be as serious. Kids are generally expected to be more polite when they are around adults.
I also can act differently depending on where I am. At school, I try to act as good as possible, and try my hardest not to do anything stupid so I don't get in trouble. When I am somewhere hanging out with my friends, I act more naturally and don't think as much about what I do like I would at school. I think being at school typically puts all kids on their best behavior, as they are expected by their parents to stay out of trouble and succeed.

Tambu
I am so excited to get to the mission. I'm thrilled to get the education that had been wanting so desperately. Also, I am very grateful that Babamukuru is giving me this opportunity to come to the mission with him, and get to go to school.
I love it, I am so happy to be here. But why is Nyasha acting like that? Shouldn't she be more grateful for all she has and the education that she is getting. I feel so embarrassed that she is acting so rude to Babamukuru.

C Layer 1
2/28 1 hr c layer 1, 2/29 1 hr 30 mins c layer 1
Over the course of reading chapters 1-6, and reading C layer 1, I feel as if I did my best work on the vocabulary test. I liked this part because I learned 10 new words, and the definitions stuck with me fairly well. Also, I thought that the close reading was not very bad at all to annotate and make claims.
Although parts of C layer one were easy, I had trouble answering some of the questions on the reading guides. I often had to go back in my book and search for the answers because I had not remembered them. In the future, I think annotating or reading more closely will help me do better on answering the questions.
