I feel as if what Jane Goodall did was very serious. Plagerism is known as a big time issue to all writers, wether you are just writing a paper or a book. Under any circumstances it is never okay to use someone else's information in your work and call it your own. The issue would have been a lot less serious if Goodall would've cited to information properly, but she failed to do so. Plagiarism is the number 1 don't do if you are a writer, and is never anything to even consider.
To resolve this issue, Goodall did the right thing by apologizing. Although this was a good deed, there is still more that needs to be done. Goodall should let everyone know what information she got from other sources, so it is fair to them. Also, I think it would only be fair if the other people from which Goodall got her info from, should get some of the profit of Goodall's book. Lastly, I think that the sources from the information need to be printed within the book somewhere.
I agree in that this is a very serious matter. What brought you to the conclusion of the profit splitting?
ReplyDeleteI also believe that plagarising is a serious matter and you shouldn't do it. Splitting the profit, is a very reasonable thing. Good idea.
